What is viatology?

If you've just started reading the 'misc.transport.road' and
'rec.autos.driving' newsgroups, odds are you've come across the term
"viatology".

So what exactly does this mean?  Viatology is the scientific study of roads.
It involves the observation, notation and history behind international
roads.  Your contributions to this field can include biographies of roads
(yesteryear or recent), data collection, signage standards, etc.  For more
information on viatology, including its etymology thereof, please refer to
http://www.ringcar.com/

Each person who contributes to the defined studies of viatology is
considered a viatologist.  With your help, viatology can become a legitimate
study in scholastic research and beyond.

Cheers,

Carl Rogers
