2057 or 1157 what's the difference?

by Tim » Wed, 13 Jan 1999 04:00:00

I have a 88' plymouth reliant and a tail light/turn signal went out
I assumed it was a 1157 but when I removed the bulb it was marked
2057.
Can I use a 1157? What's the difference between the two?

Thank You

The resistance value which determines the wattage (illumination) of the bulb's
filaments. Both will work, but the brightness and/or how fast it flashes can be
affected.

2057 is brighter yet doesn't get as hot..

IIRC the 2057 has a lower wattage running lamp filament than the 1157.
If you use the 1157 as a replacement, you will melt the tail light
housing.  At least this is what happens on a 280Z.
