225/50 or 225/55/16?

I have a '93 5.0 LX. I bought it recently and it has 225/50/16's on it.
They need to be replaced and I don't know wether to put the original
/55/16's on or stick with the lower profile. The /50/16 looks good but
is the smaller profile throwing off my speedo and odometer alot. I don't
want my odometer to increase alot more than it has to. Please help!

According to my calculations (assuming sidewall height is the ratio .5
or .55 multiplied by the width 225, therefore tire diameter is twice
that value plus 16 inches, and according to my memory circumference is
pi*diameter) the lower profile tire will be 3.5% off.  So when you
travel 10 miles, your odometer will register 10.4 miles.  This can be
easily fixed I believe by any driveline shop.

Try a set of 245/50 ZR 16 's they are not quite as low as the 225/50 's,
but a significant improvement over the 225/55 's
