16*6 frts, 16*7 rear on Bug???

I found a great set of original porsche 5 spoke wheels on ebay.  Will
205/40/16's fit on the front of a 69 bug??  I think that is too fat!

thanks

Hi,

I think you'll find that the 40 series tires will not fit on the 6" wheel.  I
tried this with a set of 16s just like the ones you are talking about, had to
go with 195-50-16s.

Will the 195/50/16's fit on a slightly lowered bug?  195 seems awfully wide for
a front tire to me.  I think I may pass on these wheels and go with fake
15's... although these wheels look fantastic.

I have a set of 928S rims on my '73 Super and they stick out about 1
inch on all fours, these are 205/50/16s.

I had 225/50/15' on a 15 x 5 1/2 wheel and it fit fine on the rear so
the tires will fit on the rims. As far as the front goes, it all depends
on how low you want to go.  Stock height will be no problem, but if you
want to lower it 3 or more inches, a 145 series tire is about as wide as
you want to go. Another, much more involved, option is to narrow the
front beam but that is a lot of work.  So, what I would do if I was you
is buy two of the wheels, put the tires on them, go and buy a pair of
the fake 15 inch wheels and use a 145 or 135 tire.

Good Luck!

A 16x6 porsche alloy will acommodate a 205/40/16 tire. You have to have lots of
patience but it will pop on the rim!!!! i have 16x6 and 16x7 on a 67 westy and
it looks awesome.
